Viña Ilusion has been the home of Martin Alonso Etayo and Gloria Plaza Medina since they bought the land and built their house there in 1992. Since then the vineyard has been organically farmed with what they call an eclectic approach of a combination of the teachings of Fukuoka, Jean-Marie Roger, Rudolf Steiner, permaculture, many years of experience and of course what each new day presents to them.
The vineyard – limestone with iron and clay – has grown to encompass not just the 5 hectares they own but also approximately 16 hectares from other growers in the area with a collective composition of 75% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 10% Graciano, 5% Garnacho.
At around 600-700 meters above sea level and with the influence of the Ebro Valley, they have pursued biodiversity, growing vines along with various varieties of fruit trees, olives and almonds. A climate of mild winters and hot summers with cool nights they produce classic, un-oaked and stunningly fresh, easy drinking wines.
“Viña Ilusion is the result of many years working to realize the dream of buying land and living off it. With love, respect and openness, we care for the earth and it’s creatures.” – Martin Alonso Etayo
