Château Le Puy
Château Le Puy has been in our portfolio for a very, long time and you probably recognize the name “Emilien” as we have been bringing you a new vintage each year. But if you don’t know these wines – they are Bordeaux wine of a whole different pedigree than you are probably used to. This is a pure terroir driven wine.
Château Le Puy has been owned by the Amoreau family since 1610. It is located on the same clay and fossil-rich limestone plateau as St. Emilion, overlooking Pomerol on a hill called the “Plateau of Wonders”. Pascal Amoreau is the 15th generation of the family to make wine from the property. He makes wine as naturally as possible to allow “Expression Originale du Terroir” – a pure expression of terroir.
The wines are hand sorted at harvest and matured in used barrels made of fine-grain oak. They are energized regularly according to the lunar calendar and their specific needs are determined by Pascal and Jean Pierre Amoreau. The maturation period depends on the vintage but is generally 24 months.
For 400 years there has been no use of chemicals on the soil, low yields, natural yeasts, no additives, long aging and very low added sulphites. The results are pure wines that can stand the test of time.
