Elena Fucci’s Titolo is one of the rare wines that you can get emotional about.
It is truly one of Southern Italy’s greatest wines. It is a high altitude (600m) single vineyard Aglianico grown in the volcanic soils of Mt. Vulture – the benchmark location for Aglianico. It is a wine that is built to age and that surprises you with how sexy and elegant it is for such a big and concentrated wine.
Titolo is made by the Fucci family. Their small family owned estate had its first vintage in 2000, but it has quickly vaulted itself to the to the top. The estate has been referred to as “one of the beacons of wines in Basilicata” by Gambero Rosso and “a reference point for wine in Basilicata” by Antonio Galloni of erobertparker.com. Salvatore Fucci and his daughter Elena focus on making only one wine: Titolo – Aglianico del Vulture DOC wine.
Elena, an oenologist and grower, now runs the estate. She has accomplishd a lot for a 29 year old and her future is bright. The family’s vineyards were bought by Elena’s grandfather Generoso, who used to work them as a labourer. The grapes used to go into the famous Pasternoster Aglianico del Vulture. They come from the highest vineyards on Mt. Vulture with pozzolana and volcanic ash soils. The vines are over 70 years old. The grapes are always harvested late into November. Only 18,000 bottles of Titolo are made every year.
Aglianico is the one of the three great Italian grapes that make wines that can age for long periods of time: Barolo, Brunello, and Aglianico. The best Aglianico wines come from Aglianico del Vulture DOC and are grown in the volcanic soils of Mt. Vulture in Basilicata.

Description: This is truly one of Southern Italy’s greatest wines. A high-altitude, single vineyard Aglianico del Vulture grown in the volcanic soils of Mt. Vulture. This wine is built to age. It is big and tannic and sexy, silky, and elegant at the same time.
Tasting Note:“Aglianico del Vulture Titolo assures us that it is truly in a class of its own through its sheer style. The ’08 version shows us just why. Behind its material form, underlined by lush fruit and powerful, vigorous tannins, lies something quite different, which comes through on the nose in flashes of roots across balsam and iodine, confirmed in a creamy, rounded palate infused with fresh tastes. To sum up, it is a wine that only a cursory tasting could classify as simply modern. As the months pass, it even seems to lighten in pressure and length. Three emphatic glasses.” 3 Red Glasses
